HAZLETON – A former county conservation district employee in northeastern Pennsylvania is agreeing to plead guilty to a theft charge stemming from allegations she stole $450,000 from the organization.
Virginia Kunigonis will plead guilty to one count of theft from programs receiving federal funds. That’s according to a plea agreement filed Thursday in federal court in Harrisburg.
The Standard-Speaker of Hazleton reported that the plea agreement was filed with court papers charging Kunigonis.
Federal prosecutors say 53-year-old former fiscal technician with the Schuylkill Conservation District will repay the money she embezzled over 6½ years, through May 2014.
Prosecutors said Kunigonis forged 437 district checks for $410,000 and used a district credit card to charge another nearly $42,000.
Police said Kunigonis used it to pay credit card bills and pay for trips.
