Flenniken Library to host fall programs

The Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels has an assortment of events and programs beginning in October and running through the fall and winter seasons.

• Book-a-Librarian option allows people to schedule time with a library staff member to help them with a research paper, technology, updating a resume, learning about a family’s history and other things. Call the library to schedule an appointment today.

• Preschool classes are held on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. with stories, songs and crafts. Perfect for ages 3 to 5 and their parents. Classes will run until Dec. 8.

• Toddler classes are held on Fridays at 11 a.m. with stories, songs, and crafts. Perfect for toddlers up to 3 years old and their parents. Classes will run to Dec. 11.

• Book Club for Adults will discuss Big Little Lies on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Book Club meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Reserve your copy at www.waggin.org. November’s title is Little Mercies by Heather Gudenkauf.

• Drop-in Crafternoon is held on Thursdays after school to craft with friends. The library provides the supplies and it is open to all ages.

• Teen Game Night will be held Friday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. Teens are invited to play board games, Wii, cards, role-playing games and more.

• The library will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, in observance of Columbus Day.

• Hear from the 2015 Coal Queen Katlyn Allison about her trip this summer to the Dominican Republic. The presentation will be Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. in the library.

• Teen Read Week will be from Oct. 19-23. Check out this year’s Teens’ Top Ten nominees and we’ll announce the 2015 winners. After school programs:

Monday Movie: City of Bones based on the book by Cassandra Clare

Tuesday Stress Relief: Yoga for Teens

Wednesday: Teen Pumpkin Carving

Thursday: Crafternoon – Bat Crafts

Friday: Teen Reading Lounge. Talk books, recommend titles to friends, and find out what to read next.

• Teen pumpkin carving will be held after school Wednesday, Oct. 21. Teens can carve a pumpkin to take home. Pumpkins and carving materials will be provided. Sign-up requested.

• Read for the Record event will help kids all over the world break the record for the largest shared reading experience on Thursday, Oct. 22. Pre-K and toddler classes will be reading Not Norman by Kelly Bennett and each participant will receive their own copy of the book. Anyone can read Not Norman for free online at www.readfortherecord.org on Oct. 22.

• Free online classes will include topics such as accounting, grant writing, computer skills, web design, and more. The library will host the free six-week online classes beginning Wednesday, Oct. 21

• Ghost Stories with Alan Irvine will celebrate Halloween at the library by telling Ghost Stories on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Award-winning story teller, Alan Irvine, will entertain all ages with tales of spirits and legends.
