Library appoints architect
BENTLEYVILLE – The Bentleyville Public Library has named an architect to oversee construction of its $1.6 million expansion project.
The enlarged building will be known as the Bentworth Community Center, with Kulak Design Associates of Monongahela overseeing the project.
“We’re well over halfway to our (fundraising) goal,” said Bernard G. Kubitza, treasurer of the campaign raising money to fund the building’s construction.
“We’re hopeful that things will work out. We’re working hard,” Kubitza said Tuesday.
The building at 931 Main St. also houses the local senior center and historical society.
It will have an elevator, new roof, larger kitchen for the Meals on Wheels program and an expanded library, he said.
Kulak will manage the bidding process and the awarding of construction contracts.
The first phase of the fundraising campaign will end Dec. 1, and construction is expected to begin in fall 2016.
Kubitza said the library has collected more than $800,000 in grants, gifts and pledges for the project. Donations may be made at www.bentworthcommunitycenter.com.
