PORTLAND, Maine – A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty in federal court to the interstate stalking of a former medical school classmate.

Prosecutors said 35-year-old Makwan Jaff of Mechanicsburg created five Facebook accounts using variations of the victim’s name and added pictures of her to them without her permission. The profiles included the use of derogatory words to describe the victim. When she deleted the Facebook accounts, prosecutors said Jaff sent threatening email and private Facebook messages to her and her family.

Jaff and the woman attended medical school in St. Kitts in the West Indies. Prosecutors said she attended school in Scarborough, Maine, from May 2014 until June 2014 when some of the harassment took place.

Jaff faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
