ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Federal authorities say they’ve taken nearly 23,000 doses of heroin and 13 drug dealers out of circulation with the dismantling of a Pennsylvania-to-Rochester trafficking operation.

U.S. Attorney William Hochul (HOH-kuhl) says investigators also seized more than $93,000 in cash and nine guns during a series of raids announced Thursday. In all, 10 addresses in the two cities were raided, along with a vehicle, during four days in March.

Authorities say a six-month investigation that included the use of multiple wiretaps revealed that a group of Philadelphia residents was using vehicles with hidden compartments to supply large quantities of pre-packaged heroin to Rochester-area contacts.

Law enforcement officers estimate the Rochester group was distributing in excess of $50,000 worth of heroin a week.
