North Strabane convenience store robbed, other cases investigated in Mon Valley
A man robbed a convenience store in North Strabane Township of cash and cigarettes Wednesday afternoon as police from five other departments in Washington County and the Mon Valley investigated a rash of such crimes since March 29.
In all, there have been seven recent convenience store robberies in the area, and Charleroi Regional police said earlier Wednesday some may have involved the same suspect.
A white man wearing a gray-and-white plaid jacket, blue jeans, dark boots and a gray hooded sweatshirt robbed TJ’s Deli Mart at 2601 Washington Road in North Strabane about 2:45 p.m. before running toward McClelland Road, township police said.
The suspect also wore a dark mask over his face and did not appear to have been carrying a weapon, North Strabane police said.
Charleroi Regional police Wednesday morning released surveillance photographs of a woman and man who robbed the Charleroi Sunoco at First Street and Fallowfield Avenue of $32 about 3:30 a.m. Monday.
Charleroi police said they believe the man who wore a mask over his face is black and may be the same suspect who robbed an Exxon station in nearby Rostraver Township shortly after the Sunoco robbery.
Rostraver police confirmed the robbery at the Exxon at Route 201 and Interstate 70 and that there also was one Friday at a Cogo’s at 5100 Route 51 in the township. Rostraver police did not release any more information on those robberies Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the North Belle Vernon Sunoco A-Plus store at 15 Fayette Street was robbed early March 29 by a man wearing black clothes and brandishing a weapon.
State police were on the scene of a robbery about 4:15 a.m. Monday at a Circle K at 880 Henderson Ave. in Canton Township. The robber is black, about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a stocky build.
State Trooper Matthew J. Jardine said following the Circle K robbery police would look into the possibility of that robbery being related to some of the other cases, but he didn’t want to speculate about a connection.
Washington police also investigated a robbery about 4 a.m. March 29 at a Valero at 98 Murtland Ave. In that case, a black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt backward with the hood covering his face may have had a weapon when he robbed the store.
Anyone who has information about the Charleroi robbery is asked to contact Charleroi Regional police at 724-483-8010, extension 33.
