Driver dies in wreck in West Finley
A West Alexander man was killed Saturday night in a one-vehicle accident in West Finley Township, according to state police.
Larry A. Layton, 61, was driving southbound on Fraction Road near Clovis Ridge Road between 7 and 7:50 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck, traveled off the road and got it stuck along a steep shoulder, state police said.
According to the state police report, Layton refused help from two passing motorists.
Before police arrived on the scene, Layton was able to free the vehicle, which then traveled over the embankment and down a steep pasture into a wooded area, striking several trees.
Layton, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown across the passenger compartment and under the dashboard.
Assisting were Donegal Township police and West Finley and West Alexander fire departments.
