Alleged Burgettstown bank robber arrested
An Ohio man suspected of robbing a Burgettstown bank last week was arrested Monday morning by Steubenville, Ohio, police on a bench warrant issued for failure to appear in court in his home state.
McDonald police obtained an arrest warrant Monday for Justin Tyler Butler, 21, of Steubenville, on three counts each of robbery, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and one count of theft from District Judge Gary Havelka in connection with the April 5 robbery at the PNC branch at 1803 Main St.
Officer Ross Youree, who filed the charges against Butler, said the Ohio man gave a teller a note indicating the bank was wired with C-4 plastic explosives and he would blow it up. Bank employees described the robber as “visibly nervous.” He did not show a weapon. About $1,000 was reportedly stolen.
Youree said the FBI received tips on social media that led them to Butler. Police also plan to file conspiracy charges against a woman who was reportedly in the car with Butler.
Butler, who Youree said goes by several last names including Tyler, Gordon, Nobile and Crothers, will make an appearance before a judge in Jefferson County Wednesday. He will be extradited to Washington County to face arraignment on the robbery charges. Butler is being held in Jefferson County jail in Steubenville.
