Peters approves building repairs
McMURRAY – Peters Township Council this week unanimously approved a $274,400 contract with Freedom Enterprises and Associates for upgrades at the township’s municipal building.
The project focuses on addressing building security, including construction of a secure entryway into the building, creation of an emergency exit from council chambers, creation of a controlled access point in the planning department, addition of security cameras throughout the building and secured entry to office areas.
Included in the project were two additions to the basic contract: replacement of all doorknobs and locksets, and making the council meeting room handicapped-accessible.
Also approved during council’s meeting was a bid from Morgan Excavating for $1,331,003 for the township’s 2016 pavement maintenance project. Approved was the base bid of $1,204,342, the fire station middle lot for $39,812, and Meredith Drive resurfacing for $86,848. Work is expected to start in June.
Council also approved a resolution authorizing a grant application to the state Department of Community and Natural Resources for improvements at Peterswood Park.
The estimated cost for improvements at the upper playground at the park is $503,516 and includes playground and adult fitness equipment, installation and surfacing costs. The estimated cost for a new shelter is $70,000 and for handicapped access from the parking lot to the shelter is $8,250, bringing the total project estimate to $581,766.
In other business, a request from the Peters Township Sanitary Authority to conduct sewer rehabilitation work along East McMurray Road during early morning hours was approved.
The sanitary authority is planning to rehabilitate about 5,000 feet of sanitary sewer along East McMurray Road from the intersection with Jones Road to several hundred feet beyond the intersection of Fieldbrook Drive. The work will be done between late June and early August.
Because Columbia Gas will also be replacing gas lines this summer, the authority requested lane closures only between 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
