City police continue to investigate shooting
Two New York men told Washington police they went to a home on Harding Avenue Friday night thinking they were going to buy marijuana but instead both were robbed and one was shot in the left hip.
Donovan O. Dykes, 21, and Lorenzo T.V. Jefferson, 25, both of The Bronx, were confronted by a gunman who ordered them to remove their shoes and then robbed them and shot Dykes.
Police received a call about 8 p.m. from a woman who reported a man was shot after she was reportedly approached by Dykes who asked her to call for help.
When police arrived at 104 Harding, they found Dykes on the kitchen floor with a shell casing near him. There also was a broken suspected crack pipe on the kitchen table along with other miscellaneous items identifying the tenants. Detective Dan Rush said the residents were not home during the incident.
Jefferson told police they had gone to 104 Harding to purchase marijuana. When they arrived, they knocked on the door and were greeted by a black man whom they had never seen before at the home. The man seemed surprised when they told him they were there to buy marijuana, Jefferson said.
Moments after their arrival, another black man entered through the front door, pulled out a gun, demanded money and shot Dykes. Rush said the shooter and man who answered the door left the house together.
Rush said it appears Dykes and Jefferson purchased marijuana at the home in the past.
Dykes was flown from a landing zone at Shop ‘n Save to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh. Rush said he was unable to talk with Dykes because he was undergoing surgery for his injury Monday.
Rush said they were not able to give a further description of the two men.
“There are still some holes in the story,” Rush said.
