East Beth park rehab to be completed this summer
Those who use Vestaburg Community Park should soon see a resurfaced basketball court and street hockey rink and new fences around these areas.
The Local Share Account from gambling revenue generated at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino has provided $45,000 to be used with township dollars to pay for the $47,554 construction contract with El Grande Industries Inc. of Monessen, which was awarded last month.
East Bethlehem Township Commissioner Leisa Conklin, who represents the Vestaburg area of East Bethlehem Township, said, “Our little township has lost a lot over the years. We’ve lost our coal industry, many of our youth have moved out of the area, and we’re not an area that’s rich in gas and oil so it hasn’t brought as many jobs to us.”
Rather than become discouraged, township residents prefer to focus on ways they can make progress, and Conklin said through the local share program, the township has received $240,000 for various small projects, plus more than $2 million for infrastructure.
In addition to basketball and street hockey, those in the community also use the park for Easter egg hunts, Halloween parties and Christmas festivities.
Conklin, township secretary Maryann Kubacki and Joe Swinchock of Clarksville attended Thursday’s meeting of the Washington County Board of Commissioners.
