•Date: April 21

Action: As expected, members of the board approved the Washington County Redevelopment Authority’s sale of two tracts – six acres and two acres – to Pitt Building LLC for $250,000 to construct a distribution center and offices for Airgas Inc. and to Mon Valley Sewage Authority for $100,000 for a pump station, both in the Southgate Urban Renewal Project, Donora Industrial Park.

At the request of Lisa Cessna, executive director of the Washington County Planning Commission, the commissioners awarded a contract to Gary Metzinger Cement Contractor Inc. of Pittsburgh to replace Bridge No. 2 over King’s Creek in Hanover Township near Florence and the Dunbar Bridge over Raccoon Creek at a total cost of $345,755 from Act 13 funds collected from unconventional natural gas wells.

At the request of the health center in Arden, the board entered into an agreement with Dr. Julie W. Wilcox to be medical director of rehabilitation services through March 31, 2017, at a rate of $1,500 per month.

The commissioners awarded a $16,640 contract to Horizon Information Services, Glenshaw, Allegheny County, for a board room sound system.

At the request of Justin Welsh, new director of building and grounds, the commissioners approved three projects that have been recommended for $56,861 in Act 13 funding: the upgrade of failing pneumatic controls at the courthouse by Automated Logic Corp., Pittsburgh, $34,900; replacement of faulty heating, ventilation and air-conditioning dampers at the courthouse by Hayes Mechanical of Export, Westmoreland County, $15,936; and repair of a cooling tower at the Courthouse Square office building by Hayes Mechanical, $5,861.

At the request of the Public Safety Department, the commissioners approved a no-fee, five-year lease with SBA Towers VI LLC to place antennas at a site on Newland School Road, West Finley, and have access to the property.

•Appointments: At the request of the Public Safety Department, the board named representatives to an advisory group, the Local Emergency Planning Committee. They are Scott Reese, fire service; John Yancosek, police; Jonathan Madaras, emergency medical services; Jim Jefferson, WJPA radio; Scott Held, EQT; Mike Lauderbaugh, Rice Energy; Hugh White, Range Resources; Jodi Noble, Chartiers Township manager, local government; and Jeff Kotula, president of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

• Travel: Three officials from the Tax Revenue Department will be attending the seminar, “Preparation and Trial of the Property Tax Assessment Appeal” in June at the North Carolina School of Government, Chapel Hill, N.C., at a cost of $1,300 plus hotel and car rental, to be paid from the Recorder of Deeds Records Improvement Fund. One employee of the public defender’s office and four employees of the Washington Drug and Alcohol Commission will attend the National Association of Drug Court Professionals training conference in Anaheim, Calif., also in June, at a cost of $3,500 for five registrations to be paid for from substance abuse fees collected through Act 198 related to substance abuse education.

• Announcement: All county offices will be closed Tuesday due to the Pennsylvania primary election.

• Next meeting: 10 a.m. May 5 in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building.
