Fallowfield supervisors discuss summer road improvements
Summer is around the corner and that means road improvements.
Fallowfield Township supervisors Wednesday provided updates to several projects, as well as choosing roads slated to be improved in the township.
Supervisors slated Botsko Road and Lover-Jonestown Road to be blacktopped and Cooper Road and Clover Road to be tarred and chipped. Supervisors approved a motion to put the project out to bid.
The Botsko Bridge project will wrap up in about two weeks. Supervisor Earl Sadler said the $385,000 project was paid from the local share of gaming money from The Meadows Casino.
Work is continuing on the reconstruction of the Bentleyville and Route 481 interchanges of Interstate 70. Supervisor Wilbur Caldwell said Route 481 in the area of the interchange is a single lane and motorists should slow down. The project is expected to be finished in 18 months to two years.
Supervisor Bruce Smith received a letter from a resident concerning the condition of Charleroi Cemetery Road.
“I went up there and the road has eroded next to the creek. I wouldn’t want to drive on the road,” he said. The road is private and the township’s hands are tied, said Caldwell, but he agreed its condition is deplorable.
Smith suggested the supervisors could put pressure on several agencies to come up with a solution. “Maybe if we got all of the residents on the road to get together and write a letter, we could get the county to get something done,” Smith said.
Supervisors approved the purchase of a 2016 Peterbuilt truck with salt spreader and plow for $161,367 through a municipal four-year loan. The first estimated payment of $40,000 will be paid from the township’s equipment fund and Act 13 gas impact fee money. Caldwell said the township will receive the truck by December.
The township municipal park improvements are moving along, though the installation of the bleachers hit a snag. The bleachers were damaged when received and have been shipped back to BHC INCom Division in North Cambria for repair or replacement.
Caldwell said the infield dirt at the ball field has been delivered and spread for the spring season.
Caldwell gave an update on the Fallowfield Elementary Park sewage project. He said a letter was sent to the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi to request the waiver of tap in fees and a six-month per year billing cycle, since the water is turned off from October through March.
