Police: Driver robbed at gunpoint
A Westmoreland County man was arrested early Saturday by Charleroi Regional police after he allegedly robbed a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint.
Dylan Axton, 20, of Greensburg, is charged with robbery, theft and criminal use of a communications facility after he allegedly robbed the delivery driver from Armando’s Pizza in the 500 block of Eighth Street.
Police said Axton reportedly sent a Charleroi boy a text message using his cellphone about robbing the driver, but wanted to use a number other than his own to call and order food.
Axton allegedly went to the boy’s home, called Armando’s and used the boy’s cellphone to place an order, police said. When an employee of the pizza shop called the boy’s cellphone back, Axton made arrangements to have the pizza delivered to the intersection of Eighth Street and Lookout Avenue.
When the driver arrived, he was approached by two men.
One brandished a semi-automatic handgun and demanded the driver hand over his money.
The driver handed over about $150, police said.
Officers were able to track Axton through his cellphone number and found him at 1109 Crest Ave.
Axton was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for an Aug. 11 preliminary hearing before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
