Two competing for fair queen title
WAYNESBURG – Two teenagers will compete for the title of Miss Greene County Fair Queen 2016 this Sunday.
The new queen will be selected during the queen contest at 4 p.m. Sunday at the fairgrounds. She will reign over this year’s fair and serve as the fair’s ambassador at all special events.
The fair queen also will represent the Greene County Fair in the Pennsylvania State Fair Queen Pageant during the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs in Hershey in January.
The new queen will be selected based on a personal interview, a brief speech on “Why You Should Come to the Greene County Fair,” a written essay about the fair and an evening gown competition.
The two contestants are Lindsey Gilbert and Breanna Scott.
Gilbert, 17, is a daughter of James and Heather Gilbert of Waynesburg.
She is a graduate of Waynesburg Central High School, where she was a member of the student council, the Alpha Beta Club and the Future Farmers of America.
She was sentinel for the FFA in 2014.
Gilbert placed first in the FFA public speaking contest and land judging in 2015. She also received the Scott Faddis Memorial Scholarship.
Scott, 18, is the daughter of Mittie and Jason Hartley of Waynesburg.
She is a graduate of Waynesburg Central High School. She graduated cum laude with a 3.5 grade point average. Scott was a drum major in the band and a student advisor for the FFA.
She received numerous FFA awards and was a four-year varsity letterman. She received the Chuckie Calvert Memorial Scholarship.
