Child safety seat check planned
State police will conduct a child safety seat check at the Troop B headquarters, 83 Murtland Ave., Washington, Aug. 10.
The inspections will be done by appointment between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at 30-minute intervals.
State police plan to educate caregivers on the proper installation of their child safety seats and provide information about when seats are lawfully required. State law says that anyone operating a vehicle with a child under the age of 4 must have the child secured safely in a child passenger seat. Anyone transporting a child between the ages of 4 and 8 must have the child in a fastened safety seat belt system and in an appropriately fitting booster seat.
All child safety seats also will be checked for recalls, damage and proper installation. Caregivers also will be taught about the proper use of the seats.
To schedule an appointment, call state police at 724-223-5200.
