Nearly $8K in cigarettes stolen from vehicle in Dunkard
Nearly 100 cartons of cigarettes valued at about $8,000 were stolen from a vehicle early Thursday morning in Dunkard Township, state police said.
The 90 cartons, which included multiple brands of cigarettes, belonged to Dilliner Convenience Store at 2313 South Eighty-Eight Road, police said.
The store owner, Marita Gugliotta, took the cigarettes to her residence nearby, where they were later stolen from her vehicle between midnight and 4:30 a.m., police said.
State police Cpl. Brian Pitchford said Gugliotta was taking the cigarettes home when she closed the store every night “because the store’s been burglarized in the past and she didn’t want them to be in the window for people to see.”
Pitchford said “it’s a possibility” the suspect could be someone who knew Gugliotta was taking the cigarettes to her home.
Police are continuing to investigate and asked anyone with information to call troopers at 724-627-6151.
