Mt. Pleasant man arrested on rape charges
A Mt. Pleasant Township man was arrested Tuesday by township police for allegedly raping two girls at a township home.
Steve Czako, 44, of 27 Locust Grove Court, McDonald, was taken into custody at his Cecil Township workplace on a warrant charging him with two counts each of rape, indecent assault of a child less than 13 years old, indecent assault of a child less than 16 years old, aggravated indecent assault of a child, three counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child less than 16 and one count of indecent assault.
Police Chief Lou McQuillan said police began their investigation after being contacted by Washington County Children and Youth Services. One of the girls reportedly disclosed what Czako had done to her.
The alleged assaults reportedly began when both girls were under 10 and continued until they were teenagers, happening on multiple occasions over a period of several years, according to court documents. Both girls told police Czako touched them inappropriately and forced them to engage in sex.
Czako was arraigned before District Judge Curtis Thompson and placed in Washington County jail on $450,000 bond. He faces an Aug. 18 preliminary hearing before District Judge Traci McDonald.
