With everything you have to do during the week, it might be difficult to get caught up on local news. But don’t worry: we have you covered. Here’s a list of the five most popular articles from the Observer-Reporter’s website this week.
Luke Blanock, a multisport athlete at Canon-McMillan High School whose courage and poise in fighting cancer inspired so many others, died Sunday at the age of 19.
Blanock was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma – a rare cancer that forms in the bone marrow and soft tissue – in December 2013. As the community learned of his diagnosis, it sparked an outpouring of support. Blanock spoke about his condition at several events.
The diagnosis did not stop Blanock’s love for sports. A year after he was told his athletic career was over, he started and scored his first varsity points in Canon-McMillan basketball’s win over Burgettstown.

A girl, identified only as a juvenile witness, allegedly told police she tried to dissuade Hooper from shooting Edwin “Cheeno” Rivera. Barnett died from a bullet wound and her friend, Jasmine Young, was also injured in the incident. Rivera was unscathed.
