Public hearing will address Waynesburg internet quality
The state House Consumer Affairs Committee will conduct a public hearing in Waynesburg next week to discuss broadband deployment and issues with internet quality in rural areas.
The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waynesburg University’s Miller Hall, state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson, announced Friday morning.
Snyder, Democratic secretary for the House Consumer Affairs Committee, said she requested the hearing after receiving continued complaints about internet quality and access for citizens and businesses in her district.
“We live in the Information age, and any detours on the information superhighway in rural Pennsylvania are unacceptable,” Snyder said. “The hearing will hear from citizens, business people, industry officials and regulators to delve into the issues delaying full access to high-quality internet access and service and how we can best overcome them.”
The hearing will include testimony from Deborah Morgan, a residential consumer; Andrew Place, a Greene County resident and vice chairman of the Public Utility Commission; the Office of Consumer Advocate and the Small Business Advocate; and an industry panel of representatives from Verizon, the Pennsylvania Telephone Association, Windstream, Broadband Cable Association and Atlantic Broadband.
The public is invited to attend the hearing.
