Monessen dairy bar owner, two others assaulted
MONESSEN – A Monessen man was jailed on charges he severely injured the owner of a dairy bar and assaulted two others Thursday at the business in the Westmoreland County city.
City police arrested William Kevin Huweart Jr., 29, of 1302 Rostraver St. on charges of simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness in connection with the assaults in Libby’s Dairy Bar, court records show.
Huweart was sent Friday to Westmoreland County jail on $10,000 bond set by District Judge Joseph Dalfonso.
Police were called to the store at 8:15 p.m. Thursday as Huweart was running out of the business after he allegedly punched Joseph Maione in the face, knocking the business owner to the floor at 1401 Rostraver St., according to the affidavit supporting the criminal charges in the case.
Maione told police Huweart charged at him in the unprovoked assault as Maione walked over to the Huweart’s table. Maione also told police Huweart was making inappropriate comments to another customer and offering his “personal thoughts about the business,” police stated in court records.
Huweart allegedly picked up a chair after Maione fell to the floor and was preparing to strike him with it until another person in the store pushed Huweart away.
Police said Huweart, as he was fleeing, pushed Maione’s wife, Kristin, and shoved customer Kathleen Vlasic against a freezer, causing a minor injury to her left arm.
Joseph Maione likely will need cosmetic surgery on his lips, police said.
Huweart was found hiding in a patch of brush about 9:30 p.m. between 1301 and 1309 Rostraver St.
