State liquor stores in Waynesburg, Belle Vernon now open on Sunday
The liquor reform bill passed by state officials earlier this year means the state-run Wine & Spirits stores in Waynesburg and Belle Vernon are now open Sundays, while several other stores in the area will have expanded hours those days.
The liquor stores at 55 Sugar Run Road near Waynesburg and 321 Tri-County Lane in Belle Vernon opened for the first time this past Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Numerous other stores in Washington County, the Mon Valley and South Hills of Pittsburgh expanded their hours as well.
The liquor reform bill passed by the legislature and signed into by Gov. Tom Wolf in June updates the state’s Liquor Control Board regulations that now offer loyalty programs and coupons and flexible pricing discounts at the stores. It also opened wine and beer sales to grocery stores, allows the sale of six-packs of beer at permanent gas stations and permits the direct shipment of wine to homes.
The law, which went into effect last week, allowed 120 state liquor stores to open Sundays and expanded hours for 188 other stores that were already open that day of the week.
Those changes mean two state stores in Washington County – at 301 Oak Spring Road near Washington and 3929 Washington Road at Donaldson Crossroads in McMurray – are included in the expanded hours that will now be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each Sunday.
