Monessen officials said Thursday the city’s clerk had told them the day before of her plans to resign at the end of the month to take a new job.

City Councilman Ron Chiaravalle said Holly Minno, who’s been clerk since 2014 and before that oversaw accounts and finance, met with him and Mayor Lou Mavrakis at city hall Wednesday afternoon and submitted a typed letter.

“There was no hostility of anything,” Mavrakis said.

Minno will keep working for the city through the end of the month.

“She basically said, ‘I got an offer this morning, it was substantial and I couldn’t turn it down,'” Chiaravalle said.

Minno didn’t return a message Thursday.

Chiaravalle said the city will likely start the search for a replacement soon, although “being that it just occurred, we haven’t had a chance to get together with council and come to a decision.”

The next council meeting is on Monday.
