Police beat Aug. 22
Couple charged: Jerald D. Kopelic, 24, and Robyn T. Jones, 28, of 116 Brokaw Ave., Donora, were each charged with simple assault and harassment after a physical altercation Saturday at 164 Valley Avenue. They were arraigned before District Judge Robert Kanalis and placed in Washington County jail on $1,500 bonds.
Theft investigated: Waynesburg state police are investigating the theft of a chop saw from a vehicle at the intersection of Gas Company and Creek Hill roads from Aug. 7 to Aug. 8. Anyone with information is asked to call 724-627-6151.
Assault charge: James E. Strickler, 28, of 1607 W. Washington St., New Castle, was placed in jail Sunday for allegedly assaulting a fellow concertgoer Saturday night at First Niagara Pavilion. According to Hanover police, witnesses said Strickler punched Jeremy Livengood when he wasn’t looking while in the parking lot. Livengood was taken to an area hospital. Strickler was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
Drug charges: Robert G. Beltz, 48, of 2523 Milford Drive, Bethel Park, was placed in Washington County jail Sunday after allegedly selling suspected cocaine to an informant. According to Monongahela police, Beltz took $185 from the informant Saturday in exchange for cocaine. When he was detained, Beltz allegedly refused to follow commands and admitted to consuming cocaine and other narcotics. After a blood draw at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Beltz was arraigned by District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in jail on $35,000 bond. He is charged with possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, criminal conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and driving under the influence.
Possession charge: Marcos A. Martinez, 35, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was placed in Washington County jail on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia Sunday after he overdosed on suspected heroin in a hotel room on Racetrack Road. According to North Strabane police, Martinez was revived by Narcan late Saturday. A syringe and spoon were located in the room. Martinez was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in jail on $5,000 bond.
