Inmate pleads guilty to escape
WAYNESBURG – An inmate who pleaded guilty to escape for failing to return to the Greene County jail from a scheduled dental appointment in March was sentenced Wednesday.
Matthew Luke Bartimus, 43, of Bethesda, Ohio, pleaded guilty Aug. 19 to escape for failing to return to the county jail following a March 6 dental appointment. According to court records, Bartimus was arrested on a bench warrant June 3.
Under an agreement with the prosecution, Bartimus was sentenced by Greene County Court Judge Lou Dayich to serve 1 to 7 years in a state prison. The sentence will run concurrent to his previous sentence.
At the time of his escape, Bartimus was serving 11 ½ to 23 ½ months in jail after pleading guilty Dec. 21 to theft and criminal trespass for stealing more than $100,000 in drilling equipment in August 2015 from CNX well sites in Morris Township.
Bartimus had been given permission to leave the jail on a medical furlough for his dental appointments. He failed to return to the jail following his fifth appointment.
In other business before the court, Clinton Lee Hanlan, 22, of 859 Bald Hill Road, Bobtown, pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft and receiving stolen property for stealing two, 17-inch tires and rims March 15 from a house on Duff Street in Dunkard Township.
Hanlan was sentenced to six months of probation, fined $500 and ordered to pay $60 in restitution. His probation will run concurrent to a prison sentence he is now serving.
Hanlan pleaded guilty April 27 to receiving stolen property and hindering apprehension and was sentenced to 9 months to 5 years in prison. The charges stem from his part in helping his brother, Waylon Hanlan, escape from Greene County jail Dec. 27.
Joseph Lewis Horvath, 32, of 642 N. Route 88 Road, Carmichaels, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to six months of probation and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service. Hypodermic needles, spoons and stamp bags were in his possession after he was found unresponsive in his home April 19, 2015. He was revived with Narcan, police said.
As part of his sentence, Horvath also must receive a drug and alcohol evaluation and will be subject to random drug and alcohol tests.
Patrick Timothy Hager, 29, of 144 Second St., Clarksville, pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to five years of probation, fined $100 and ordered to pay $1,022 in restitution.
Hager and his girlfriend, Amanda Lynn Walls, 33, stole jewelry, silver coins and cash from the house of Walls’ mother between Feb. 1 and March 25, 2015. Walls pleaded guilty in September and was sentenced to two years of probation, according to court records.
