A Jackson Township man was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexually assaulting and molesting a young boy on at least 10 occasions, most of which occurred during the summer of 2013, state police said.

Police said Robin Dewayne Roberts, 62, of 1555 Bristoria Road, admitted to them during an interview Wednesday morning he fondled the boy when the child was 5 or 6 years old.

State police said they were first alerted of the situation last week by Children and Youth Services after receiving an anonymous tip through its ChildLine service.

The boy was interviewed Tuesday morning at Washington Hospital by a doctor specializing in child abuse and the child told investigators of the encounters, according to court documents.

“Crimes against children are the hardest cases for investigators to handle,” said state police Sgt. Steve Dowlin, the commander of the barracks near Waynesburg.

He declined to comment further on the case.

Roberts is being held on $100,000 bond at the Greene County jail on felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, sexual assault, incest with a minor, and 10 counts of corruption of a minor. He also faces 10 misdemeanor counts each of indecent assault of a person younger than 13 and endangering the welfare of a child.

Roberts was arraigned by Senior District Judge Jesse Cramer on the charges and is awaiting his preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 1.

Roberts did not have a defense lawyer listed for him as of Thursday afternoon.
