Rostraver convenience store manager shot
BELLE VERNON – The manager of a convenience store in Rostraver Township was brewing a pot of coffee early Thursday when a gunman walked in the door firing his weapon, shooting the employee in the wrist and shoulder.
The CoGo’s manager, Philip Evans, 47, of Washington, was expected to survive his injuries from the 3:50 shooting at the store at 5100 Route 51 in Rostraver Township, Rostraver police said at the scene.
Evans was flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, police said.
The shooting did not involve a robbery, an officer at the scene said, and police did not have a motive for the crime. However, police said officers responded to what had been reported as an armed robbery with shots fired.
Police said Evans “had no idea” about what prompted the shooting.
Police said an officer would go to AGH to interview the victim.
Evans told police the suspect has a short, thin build and was wearing what appeared to be a bandana.
The suspect left from the rear of the business on foot. No vehicle was seen in the area, police added.
Police later were able to release an updated description of the gunman after reviewing store surveillance. He is a white man who wore dark shorts and a baggy top that is lighter in color than the shorts. He wore an unknown head cover, possibly a bandana, sunglasses and calf-length white socks.
The Westmoreland County Forensics Bureau was also investigating the incident.
