Charleroi board intact
At its reorganization meeting Tuesday, Charleroi Area School Board retained its current leadership.
Ken Wiltz was nominated and approved as president. Wiltz, president for the past three years, said he was honored to work with the administrators, teachers and board to move the district forward. “We may disagree, but we always come together to move the district forward,” Wiltz said.
Adele Hopkins was nominated and approved as vice president. Charles Yakich was nominated and named the Mon Valley Career and Technology Center representative, and Elaine Pappersergi was named an alternative representative for the center. Bassi and Associates was retained as district solicitor, and Charleroi Federal Savings Bank was retained as the school depository.
School board work session meetings will be help at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. Regular school board meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The exception will be in November, with the meetings moved up to the second and third Tuesdays.
Superintendent Edward Zelich said the state Board of Education made an unannounced visit for the Keystone testing. During the visit, testing was monitored and personnel were interviewed. Zelich said the district passed with flying colors.
In another matter, the board renewed an easement agreement with AIU Natural Gas Consortium for access to three-quarters of an acre near the entrance of the school. The district will receive about $2,000. Zelich said there will be no disturbance of the entrance road to the school.
