• Action: The board approved a 145,942 supplement to the contract with A. Folino Construction Inc. of Oakmont, Allegheny County, for asphalt paving of Mansion Hill Road in the vicinity of the ballfield at Mingo Creek County Park and a nine-mile stretch of Panhandle Trail shoulders, bringing the revised contract to $1.26 million, paid from natural gas lease royalties. Panhandle Trail work was done between the Allegheny County line in McDonald to Burgettstown. The contract, approved last May, also included paving of the Rankin Road Bridge, South Strabane Township, and the South Jefferson Avenue Bridge, Canonsburg, which officials hope to name the Officer Scott Bashioum Memorial Bridge in honor of the policeman who was slain Nov. 10.
At the request of the tax assessment office, the board entered into a $150-per-hour contract with attorney Jeffrey Olup to represent the board of assessment appeals in court cases.
The board approved a three-year contract with approximately 30 court-related and court-appointed workers who are members of the Service Employee International Union Local 668, effective through Dec. 31, 2019.
A renewal of the county’s contract with Highmark for vision care insurance for two more years has increased 3 percent more than this year’s rate.
At the request of the Aging Services Department, the commissioners approved an additional $4,767 from the capital accout to meet the new match requirement for renovations at McGuffey Senior Center. The revised total is $11,267.
The Children and Youth Services agency noted that housing at the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center in Steubenville, Ohio, from June 1, 2015, through July 31 of this year increased nearly 2.9 percent. The commissioners approved the new total of $354,925.
