Firefighters rescued a woman whose car got stuck in the 300 block of Browns Creek Monday afternoon in Franklin Township.

Waynesburg-Franklin fire Chief Jeff Marshall said the woman, who state police declined to identify, was trying to cross her driveway, which goes directly through the creek, but the water was too high.

“She was in there for awhile,” Marshall said. “Someone drove by, saw the car in the creek and called 911.”

Marshall said the woman was not injured and that the water was up to the level of the seat in the car.

Marshall said the woman and others who live at her residence typically park their vehicles in a gravel lot off Browns Creek Road when the creek level is too high to cross. They then use a small walking bridge to get across the creek to their house, he said, but Monday, her car was already parked at the residence before the water levels rose.

It was unknown how or when the vehicle would be pulled from the creek.
