Mt. Morris man sentenced for possession of stolen gun
WAYNESBURG – A Mt. Morris man was sentenced to 18 months to 7 years in state prison for illegally possessing a stolen gun.
Brian Kamalle Young, 31, of 787 Big Shannon Run, took a plea agreement Wednesday that allowed for the charges of illegally possessing a firearm and possessing a firearm without a license to be withdrawn, while he plead guilty to receiving stolen property.
Police arrested Young in September after they responded to Young’s neighbor’s house for the report of an assault. Police said they found a black pistol on the side of the house where Young was seen by witnesses. Police discovered the gun was stolen from Washington, and Young had a prior robbery out of West Virginia on his record, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm, according to court documents.
Greene County Judge Lou Dayich gave Young credit for time served since Oct. 25 and said that in just over one year, Young may be eligible for Recidivism Risk Reduction Incentive, an opportunity for early parole based on good behavior.
