New DNA testing confirms man’s 1989 rape conviction
HOMESTEAD (AP) – A new round of DNA testing on nearly 30-year-old evidence linked to a Pennsylvania man convicted of being a serial rapist in 1989 has found that the man was the perpetrator.
Dennis Foy petitioned the court this summer to have the evidence tested in order to prove that he did not rape six elderly women in suburban Pittsburgh in 1987.
Prosecutors say 100 pieces of evidence from Foy’s cases were destroyed in a 1996 flood. Additional evidence was discovered in the basement of the Homestead police station in mid-July.
Allegheny County Judge Philip Ignelzi ordered the re-testing of the evidence, which included the rape kits for two victims.
The conclusive results of the tests identify Foy as the culprit, although he still maintains his innocence.
