Workers from Columbia Natural Gas were in Canonsburg Friday working to restore heat in homes affected by a problem with one of the company’s lines in the borough.

Spokeswoman Sarah Barczyk said water had gotten into the line and frozen, causing “rolling outages” in service at some homes in the area. She said some houses on five streets – Arlington, Benton, Gladden and Columbia drives, along with First Street – had lost heat.

“The field techs are out there dealing with that as they come up,” Barczyk said about noon.

Crews were still in the borough late in the afternoon.

A warming station was set up earlier in the day at the Senior Citizens Center, 30 E. Pike St., but Barczyk said it was discontinued.

“It was not being used, and the locations that are experiencing service interruptions are being restored quickly,” she said. “If the situation changes, we will re-evaluate the need for the warming station.”
