McGuffey School Board scheduled a special meeting for Monday evening that was especially short – five minutes.

But the meeting lasted long enough to make it special for Amy Todd, the district’s incoming business manager.

The panel hired Todd by an 8-0 vote, in the absence of vice president Ken Leasure.

She will replace Scott Burchill, who resigned recently to become business manager of the Upper St. Clair School District.

Burchill held that position at McGuffey for 11 years.

Todd similarly has been the business manager at Carmichaels Area for the past 11 years, following a decade in a similar position at Mount Pleasant Area in Westmoreland County.

Todd said she hopes to be at McGuffey by the end of January.

She is a longtime local resident, who grew up in California and lives there now. Todd said “the opportunity is a little bigger” at McGuffey, which has about 2,000 students and a $30 million budget, compared with a $16.5 million budget and 1,000 students at Carmichaels.
