Elderly pair attacked, robbed
A Waynesburg man is accused of entering a Richhill Township home Saturday night and attacking the two elderly residents before robbing the couple of a purse and shotgun, state police said.
Police said Logan John Lynn Miller went to the Bristoria Road home of Thomas and Sarah Chess about 5:45 p.m. and knocked on the door asking to use their phone.
Once inside, Miller placed a purse under his shirt, state police Sgt. Steve Dowlin said. He then threatened the couple before pushing Thomas, 83, to the ground and shoving Sarah, 79, Dowlin said.
Dowlin said Miller then pulled out a knife and threatened to kill them. He left with the purse and a 12-gauge shotgun worth about $600, which he allegedly sold later that night, Dowlin said.
Thomas Chess was taken to Washington Hospital with unspecified injuries, Dowlin said. He did not say why the couple was targeted.
Meanwhile, investigators think Miller, 29, of 111 S. West St., Waynesburg, also burglarized another house in Springhill Township and could be responsible for a rash of thefts in the western part of Greene County in recent months.
Police said they found Miller in possession of three chainsaws and an all-terrain vehicle that were reported stolen Saturday from a Springhill Township home.
Miller is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and was arraigned by District Judge Glenn Bates and taken to the Greene County jail on $15,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 3 at 2 p.m.
Dowlin said more charges are expected to be filed against Miller as police continue to investigate Saturday’s robbery and other burglaries in the area.
