Man charged with robbing store twice
A Charleroi man suspected of twice robbing a North Charleroi convenience store was arrested Wednesday night by Charleroi Regional police, who said he was found hiding in his house not long after holding up the store at knifepoint.
Jared William Dalton, 23, of 1115 McKean Ave., is accused of robbing the Cougar Mini Mart, 750 Lincoln Ave., about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, as well as on Nov. 27, when police said he also brandished a knife.
Chief Eric Porter said they went to Dalton’s residence shortly after the second robbery, and he was found hiding inside cabinets under the kitchen sink.
“He is on parole for robbery, and we knew he lived close to the store,” Porter said. “We found clothing that matched what was seen being worn by the robber on store surveillance.”
Porter said Dalton’s girlfriend told police Wednesday he told her the day after the November robbery he robbed the store at knifepoint. She told police she was sleeping Wednesday night when he came home, so she did not know where he had been or what time he returned.
Dalton reportedly was wearing a black jacket, black running pants and black shoes when he robbed the store Wednesday night. When he demanded money, the clerk told him “no.” When he was told “no” a second time, he allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded money. He then reportedly jumped onto the counter, reached into the register and stole cash. He left the store and ran south on Lincoln, police said.
In the November robbery, he reportedly showed the manager the knife and demanded the money. He then reached over the counter and stole the money before leaving the store and running south on Lincoln.
Porter was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald on two counts of robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, theft, harassment and disorderly conduct and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for a Jan. 5 hearing before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
