Police beat Dec. 29
Theft: Eric Justin Swanson, 36, of Fairview, W.Va., was charged by state police with theft and receiving stolen property for incidents that happened between July and October 2013 in which he allegedly authorized a driver to take five truckloads of scrap metal from Bailey Mine in Richhill Township to a recycler in Mt. Morris. The driver transported a total of 177,300 pounds of metal, bringing in $17,082 in cash, which Swanson kept a portion, police said. The metal was the property of Mountaineer Resources Inc., a company contracted for a demolition project at the property of Consol Energy Bailey Mine, police said. A charge of theft by unlawful taken was originally filed in March 2015, but dismissed following a preliminary hearing the following August. Greene County District Attorney Marjorie authorized the refiling of charges in the case last week, police said.
Disorderly conduct: Samuel Wilson, 33, of 438 Braden St., Waynesburg, was charged by the Greene County sheriff’s office with disorderly conduct following an incident Dec. 19 in which deputies said he entered the county courthouse and became upset when security asked him to remove a metal fish hook from his hat. Wilson allegedly started yelling and swearing and told the deputies that he can say “what he wants,” the criminal complaint said.
