NEW EAGLE – Ringgold School Board will meet in special session Wednesday to adopt a resolution lifting a lien for unpaid real estate taxes owed by Mon View Mining Co.

The board needs to clear title to the property along Route 837 in Union Township under a bankruptcy case that is expected to be finalized in March, Ringgold Superintendent Karen Polkabla said.

Mon View owed more than $2 million in real estate taxes, according to court documents. Ringgold agreed to accept about $600,000 from the company during the bankruptcy proceedings, Polkabla said.

The former Mathies Mine closed in 2002, leaving 126 miners without jobs.

Ringgold will meet at 6 p.m. in the district’s administration building at 400 Main St., New Eagle.
