Greene County Conservation District is offering a free tree-pruning workshop later this month.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at the farm of Gay and Harold Thistle along Route 21 near Rogersville. The Thistles were 2015 Pennsylvania Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year.

The workshop, which is in partnership with Southwestern Pennsylvania Woodland Owners Association, will focus on how to properly prune trees, including learning about different types of pruning equipment and how to safely use them. There also will be hands-on demonstrations of pruning both hardwood and fruit trees.

Winter is the best time of year to prune, and anyone with overgrown or messy trees is advised to attend.

The workshop is free, but space is limited. Registration is requested. For more information or to register, call the Greene County Conservation District at 724-852-5278, or email gccd@co.greene.pa.us.
