Emergency medical personnel responding to a crash on Allison Hollow Road near Hickory Ridge Road in Chartiers Township early Friday were in the 100 block of Hickory Ridge when they found a second wreck in which a car ran into a utility pole, shearing it off.

Township police said EMS personnel found Jason Brunet, 40, of Houla, La., trapped inside his car about 2:50 a.m. but were able to get the door open. When police arrived, they said they could smell an odor of alcohol. Brunet was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of a head wound and then transferred to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh. Police will obtain a warrant to get blood-alcohol results.

Police said Brunet apparently was driving south when the car went off the road and hit the pole. Property was damaged at 113 Hickory Ridge.

In the initial crash reported to police about 2:35 a.m., Robert Simms, 24, of 323 Western Ave., Houston, was driving south on Allison Hollow when his van went off the road, hit an embankment and rolled over twice. Simms, who told police he fell asleep at the wheel, refused treatment at the scene.
