Four charged in Burgettstown theft
McDonald police arrested three men and have warrants for a fourth accused of stealing a television, tablet and laptop computer from a Burgettstown home last month.
Chad Abbott, 21, of 13 Hubbard Road, Burgettstown, Chad Stroud, 22, of 14 French Mill Road, Bulger, and Matthew Thomas Markish, 26, of 124 Raymond St., Burgettstown, are charged with theft and conspiracy for allegedly stealing items belonging to Pam Markish on Feb. 3. Police also obtained a warrant for Robert DuPain Jr., 18, of 28 Hindman Ave., Burgettstown. DuPain was picked up last week on a juvenile allegation in connection with other charges and placed in Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Facility in Ohio.
A witness told police they were all drinking at 124 Raymond when Markish and Abbott went to the basement with the witness while DuPain and Stroud stayed upstairs. When the witness came up, she said she saw DuPain and Stroud walking out with the television. She said Markish and Abbott ran outside to join them, and all four ran into the woods, where police said the tablet and laptop were recovered the next day. Pam Markish was not home at the time.
Abbott and Stroud were arraigned Thursday before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bonds. Markish, who turned himself in to police Monday morning at the station in McDonald, was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in the county jail on $5,000 bond.
