A New Eagle man was arrested early Friday on a warrant obtained by Monongahela police stemming from an incident in which police were called to his home last December.

William J. Slider, 26, of 7 Applewood Drive, is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.

Police were called to his home in the early morning hours of Dec. 12 to assist emergency medical personnel on a call about a suicidal man with a knife.

While en route, police learned Slider left the house and might be walking in the direction of Keenan Hill Road, and that he still had the knife.

His sister told police he lived with her and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from his time in the military. She told police he visited his mother, who lived in the same trailer park, and they reportedly got into an argument.

Slider allegedly grabbed a knife or razor before leaving, ignoring his girlfriend’s pleas to stop. When officers from Carroll Township arrived, they spotted Slider peeking out from behind a shed. Slider allegedly ignored police commands to come out with his hands up, put his hands in and out of his pockets repeatedly and walked along the tree line of the property.

Slider allegedly stopped and yelled at police to get away from him and told the officers he would kill them. One officer was able to grab Slider, who tried to break away.

When a second officer grabbed him, Slider allegedly struggled with the officers.

Once he was placed in handcuffs, police said they found a utility knife on him. Inside the police cruiser, they said he refused to sit up, was banging his head and kicked at an officer.

Slider was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he again became irate. He broke a nurse’s thumbnail after grabbing it hard, police said.

Monongahela officer Ryan Lenzi sustained a hand injury in the scuffle and was treated at Mon Valley Hospital.

Slider was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a March 3 preliminary hearing before District Judge Mark Wilson.
