Home of ex-mob boss nominated for historical landmark
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The home of a Philadelphia mob boss where he was killed more than three decades ago has been nominated to become a landmark.
Angelo Bruno was shot to death outside his Philadelphia home in 1980 at age 69. The Philadelphia Daily News reports that the “Gentle Don’s” rowhome has been nominated to become designated an official landmark with the city’s Historical Commission.
Bruno ran the city’s mob in the 1960s and 1970s.
Celeste Morello says she nominated the three-bedroom home due to its criminal activity, which helped create federal laws that combat organized crime.
The commission is expected to take up the nomination next month.
Bruno’s daughter currently lives in the house, which has been for sale for several years.
