Monongahela man sentenced for theft

A Monongahela man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to two years of probation on his conviction of theft of government property, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced.

U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone imposed the sentence on Gregory Kavalec, 68, of Country Club Road.

According to information presented to the court, between Oct. 3, 2013, and Sept. 3, 2014, Kavalec unlawfully received $17,895 in Social Security benefits.
