Woman injured in crash
CARMICHAELS – A Carmichaels woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Cumberland Township.
Patricia Smitley, 63, of Carmichaels, was taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where she was listed in critical condition Friday morning, a hospital spokesman said.
Brittany Huss, 24, of Markleysburg, the driver of the other vehicle, was flown to UPMC-Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh. Huss was in good condition Friday morning, a spokeswoman said.
Cumberland police said Smitley was driving west on West George Street and was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway just east of Old Waynesburg Road shortly before 8 p.m. when her car collided with Huss’ pickup truck, which was traveling east. A passenger in Huss’ vehicle, Michael Rankin of Markleysburg, was not injured.
The two women were taken to the Carmichaels Area High School football field where they were flown to the respective hospitals.
Carmichaels-Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Department and Carmichaels Borough police both assisted at the scene.
