Fort Cherry School District is cooperating with McDonald police in an investigation of allegations a male teacher had inappropriate contact with a teen student, the district’s solicitor said during Monday night’s school board meeting.

“The administration acted quickly and removed (the teacher) from the district that day and (the teacher) has not returned,” solicitor John Smart read from a statement.

McDonald police Chief Mark Dorsey last week confirmed an investigation of a teacher after the district contacted the department to report the allegations. Dorsey declined to disclose the sex of the student and what type of inappropriate contact the department is investigating. Smart did not elaborate on the nature of the allegations.

Smart, in the statement, said the district has no information to indicate any alleged inappropriate conduct occurred on school property. Smart said the district notified the appropriate reporting agencies upon learning of the allegations.

“The board and administration cannot and will not address questions or comments,” Smart said.

There was no public comment on the matter. Neither Superintendent Jill Jacoby nor the nine board members commented after Smart’s statement.

Dorsey on Monday said the officers assigned to the case, Brad Resnik and Abigail Galbraith, conducted an additional interview during the last week.

“It might take some time if anything comes out of it,” Dorsey said.

The district serves 1,065 students in McDonald, Midway and Hickory boroughs and Robinson and Mt. Pleasant townships.
