Mt. Pleasant woman arrested in stabbing
A Mt. Pleasant Township woman was arrested Friday afternoon by township police after she allegedly stabbed her brother with a pair of scissors during a confrontation at their home.
Rachel Leigh Gilles, 19, of 8679 Noblestown Road, also is accused of assaulting her brother’s girlfriend during the confrontation, which police say started as an argument over the use of his vehicle.
Police Chief Lou McQuillan said Gilles was angry because she wanted to use a vehicle owned by her brother, Jacob Roessler, but he told her she could not use it because he needed to go to work.
“She grabbed a pool cue, but her brother got it off of her and put her in a bear hug,” McQuillan said. “The next thing he knew … his side felt wet, and he discovered he had been bleeding. He was able to take the scissors off of her.”
McQuillan said the scissors went about 1 1/4 inches into Roessler’s side. He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment.
Gilles also is charged with assaulting her brother’s 24-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Ann Burrelli, ripping a chunk of hair out of her scalp during the assault, McQuillan said.
Gilles refused treatment for a cut above her nose that occurred when her glasses were hit during the altercation.
Roessler will be charged with simple assault after he allegedly punched Gilles’ boyfriend, 21-year-old Dalton Nelson, in the head. Nelson went to the hospital for treatment of a possible concussion, McQuillan said. The charge against Roessler will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Traci McDonald.
Gilles was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of aggravated assault, harassment and simple assault. She was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 3 before McDonald.
