Nursing home worker accused of stealing patients’ credit cards
Peters Township police have issued an arrest warrant for a Washington woman accused of stealing credit cards from patients and visitors at a McMurray senior care center.
Detective Bryan Barbour of Peters police said between August and November, Pamela Smith, 36, of 2884 S Bridge Road, took credit cards from wallets belonging to residents, visitors and co-workers at Paramount Senior Living at Peters Township on Cedar Hill Road. Two cards were stolen from residents, two from visitors and one from a co-worker, police said.
Barbour said Smith then gave the stolen credit cards to her live-in boyfriend, Walter Beatty IV, 38. According to police, Beatty was seen on video surveillance throughout Washington and Triadelphia, W.Va., making purchases of cigarettes, beer and pizza. Police said the cards also were used at restaurants and pharmacies.
“He was buying $100 gift cards at pharmacies and selling them,” Barbour said.
A total of 32 purchases totalling in excess of $1,500 were made on the stolen credit cards.
Beatty is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit theft and access device fraud. He was released from Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Tuesday before District Judge James Ellis.
Barbour said police are still looking for Smith. She is charged with criminal conspiracy to commit theft and access device fraud.
