Waynesburg man pleads guilty to theft
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man charged with stealing three chain saws from the borough street department pleaded guilty before Greene County Judge Lou Dayich and was sentenced to 4 ½ years in the county intermediate punishment program.
Peter V. Fanase, 32, of 387 Hull Run Road, pleaded guilty Feb. 16 to theft and receiving stolen property. A charge of burglary was withdrawn.
Fanase entered a window at the borough street department building on First Street on Aug. 22 and stole three chain saws, which he told police he later sold to buy drugs.
Fanese was familiar with the building having worked on a project there earlier with a jail work crew. He was on the work crew while serving a 9- to 23½-month sentence on a previous burglary charge.
For a probation violation related to the previous burglary offense, Dayich sentenced Fanese to six months in jail, granting credit for time served from Nov. 25.
After completing that sentence, he will be entered into the county intermediate punishment program, the first six months of which will be served on house arrest.
Two of the chain saws were recovered. Fanase was ordered to pay $450 in restitution to the borough.
