A Montgomery County man was placed in Washington County jail Thursday on charges he took $15,000 from a South Strabane Township woman for services that were never performed.

Charges were filed Monday by South Strabane police with District Judge Jay Weller against Eric Yale Treadwell, 46, of 1100 W. Welsh Road, Ambler.

According to the criminal complaint, Judy Johnson said she hired Treadwell on Sept. 14 for home renovations and gave him a down payment of $15,000. Johnson said she made multiple attempts to get her money back when Treadwell failed to start work.

He is charged with one count each of theft by deception, home improvement fraud and deceptive business practices. He was jailed on $50,000 straight bond after being arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller.
